Project Overview
McLaren Oakland partnered with Advanced Satellite Communications to develop and implement a reliable integrated television system designed to support patient care operations, improve ease of use, and simplify long-term facilities support.

McLaren Oakland needed a television system that could support the realities of a busy hospital environment. The previous setup involved multiple pillow speaker configurations depending on the room, creating unnecessary complexity for patients, staff, and facilities personnel.
The hospital needed a solution that could improve reliability, simplify patient use, reduce vendor-related costs, and make long-term system support easier for the internal team.
According to Murray, ASC’s understanding of healthcare operations helped McLaren develop a more reliable integrated television system that reduced other vendor costs and made long-term operations substantially easier than the previous system.
The Solution
ASC worked with McLaren Oakland to develop a streamlined television system that simplified the experience for both patients and staff.
Instead of multiple room configurations and multiple end-user devices, the new system provided one setup, one pillow speaker, and a single point of access for patient entertainment and nurse assistance.
“The system the team developed was easy to install and configure and provides reliable service to our patients, which is our primary goal,” Murray said.
The Results
The new system improved reliability, simplified operation, and reduced day-to-day friction for McLaren Oakland’s facilities team.
The solution is easier to implement, easier to operate, and easier to troubleshoot. It also makes training new team members more straightforward because specialized knowledge is no longer required from individual staff members.
Murray described the system as a “one and done implementation,” noting that troubleshooting is now much simpler and easier to teach to new team members. The project also delivered cost clarity, with costs as expected and no hidden fees or unexpected charges.
ASC developed a plan, implemented it, and delivered the system as designed. After installation, McLaren Oakland experienced only a few minor equipment issues, including one or two repeater failures, and ASC responded quickly to correct them.
